  37. The 4.0.2 version of the SYBASE Open Client is a maintenance release that also contains several enhancements, including makefiles to allow printing of the entire online manual.  It is compatible with any SYBASE SQL Server, v. 4.x as well as any SYBASE Open Server

  41. The SYBASE Open Client is bundled on all NeXT 2.0 Extended Systems as part of the development environment.  It is released in: /NextLibrary/Packages/ThirdParty/Sybase_DB-Library.pkg\
  42. The SYBASE Open Client has been pre-installed and compressed so that it takes up less disk space when not in use.  To expand it for use, use: /NextApps/Installer.app\

  45. \b SYBASE SQL Server, v. 4.0.1, limited version
  46. \b0  – NeXT will make available a version of the SYBASE SQL Server that limits the number of connections at any one time to five.  (Note:  The previous release of SYBASE SQL Server on NeXT did not permit connections from non-NeXT platforms.  This restriction does not exist in the 4.0.1 release.)\

  48. The previous version of SYBASE SQL Server on NeXT, version 4.0, is not upwardly compatible with NeXTStep 2.0.\

  50. The 4.0.1 limited SYBASE SQL Server will be available to all NeXT customers who purchase the NeXTstep 1.0 to 2.0 upgrade.  It will be distributed separately, starting in early 1991.\

  52. New NeXT customers will be able to purchase the 4.0.1 limited SQL Server by 1Q91.

A:  Because SYBASE 4.0 is not upwardly compatible with NeXTStep 2.0, any modified or new files in /usr/sybase and  /NextLibrary/Documentation/Sybase will not be deleted.  Open Client 4.0.2 will be installed automatically upon upgrading to NeXTStep 2.0.  Since Open Client 4.0.2 is compatible with SYBASE SQL Server 4.0, NeXT systems running client applications can be upgraded to NeXTStep 2.0 and will work with the SYBASE SQL Server running under NeXTStep 1.0 on another NeXT system.\
